A retro bowling alley on Coolidge Highway, a gaming lounge where you can hang in downtown Royal Oak, a new warehouse club on 12 Mile and a progressive church in the Catholic tradition in downtown Berkley are some of the new spots open or coming soon to southeast Oakland County.

Whether it’s the amber glass chandeliers or front counter that mimics the Brady Bunch orange and brown kitchen counters, retro is the signature feel of the 16-lane Bowlero Lanes & Lounge, at 4209 Coolidge Highway.

New owners Kelly and Dean Elliott and partner Dave Zainea, one of the family members behind The Majestic and The Garden Bowl in Detroit, have transformed the 1957 bowling alley back to its retro glory with many of today’s touches added in.

“We’ve made it more accessible to strollers and wheelchairs, adding one lane where a wheelchair can access the lanes,” Kelly Elliott said.
