The Hillbilly Executives feature Guitarist Jackson Smith and Bassist James Macphee.
Though some may remember Jackson Smith in the Rock scene in the Early 2000’s, those who knew him personally saw he had a healthy Obsession with music of a different genre. Jackson grew up to love music through hearing his Grandpa Dewey Smith from Kentucky play Bluegrass and Old Time Country Music. His guitar heros were players like Tony Rice, Chet Atkins and others in the Southern music Genres. Jackson has continued to hone his skills over the years and has recorded for acts like Lisa Marie Presley, Steve Earle, and Wanda Jackson. He has toured with everyone from Patti Smith “Ma” to Elton John to Robert Gordon. The Robert Gordon guitar gig was bringing things full circle as it was a post once held by one of Jackson’s heros, Country Guitar Great Danny Gatton. Jackson also performed for 8 years with Detroit Outlaw Country Group The Orbitsuns featuring Vinnie Dombroski of Sponge.
Bassist James “Cake Daddy” MacPhee got his start playing for Rockabilly Band the Americatz at the age of 21. The Americatz were signed to Prism and toured with acts such as Billy Idol, The Blasterz, Wall of Voodoo, Marshall Crenshaw and more. From there James, like Jackson, also performed for Rockabilly Legend Robert Gordon. James was also a member of Roots Rock band Kentucky Chrome who were mainstays of the genre in the Midwest. James also has performed with The Rockabilly Strangers, The Phantom Shakers and the Motor Inns.
